About Us

The New Hampshire Optometric Association (NHOA) is the professional association representing the vast majority of New Hampshire’s practicing Doctors of Optometry.  We were founded over 110 years ago and have served our members and the citizens of New Hampshire all the years of our existence.  We are affiliated with the American Optometric Association.

The NHOA is a membership-governed organization which operates under a set of ByLaws approved by the members.  A Board of Directors leads the Association between our quarterly membership meetings.  We retain the services of an Executive Director to conduct the day-to-day operations of the Association, and since optometry is (and always will be) a profession controlled by the Legislature and the administrative agencies, we retain a Governmental Affairs firm to guide us through our involvement with these functions.

Our most visible activity is providing high-quality continuing education (“CE”) for all New Hampshire optometrists, but behind the scenes we are very active in promoting optometry to the general public and to those who control our professional lives.  We pay particular attention to ensuring that optometrists are permitted to practice to the full scope of their education and training, and that they are fairly and equitably paid for their professional skills (especially by third-party payers.)

We are an IRS-recognized 501-c(6) organization.

Our Mission

The mission of the NHOA is to influence the future of eye care in New Hampshire by ensuring the welfare of the public and promoting the profession of Optometry.

Our LONG-RANGE GOALS:

  • We seek to expand our membership, and to broaden members’ participation on the Association and in the communities they serve.
  • We seek to foster public awareness of optometry as a primary health-care profession, and to act as an advocate for optometric vision care in the political and regulatory processes.
  • We seek to provide continuing education opportunities, to maintain and enhance optometric competency.

Please contact our Executive Director if you have any questions about the NHOA or how we operate.
