NHOA March Virtual CE Series

NHOA is pleased to announce that Dr. Marc Myers and Dr. Andrew Gurwood will be co-presenting the following courses in March via Zoom webinar.  A total of 6 hours of COPE approved CE will be offered over the following two days. You may sign up for classes individually or choose the entire series. You’ll receive a Zoom link to access the webinar 2-3 days prior to the virtual CE. Please register with the email address you would like the link sent to. Also, be sure to register with your OE tracker number so that your attendance can be reported to ARBO.

Speakers/Presentors
Dr. Marc Myers:
Is a Senior Staff Optometrist at the Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He has served as a guest lecturer and adjunct clinical faculty at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. He is a Global Curriculum Fellow, supporting the International Centre Eyecare Education in Optometry thru Salus University.

Dr. Andrew Gurwood:
Is a Professor at The Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is attending staff at the Department of Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.



Both Drs. Gurwood and Myers contribute to numerous Optometric publications and serve on Editorial Review Boards.

Wednesday, March 22nd

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.: Understanding Glaucoma: Pathology, Diagnosis and Treatment, COPE ID #78887-GL (2 CE Hours)

Course Description: We will discuss the most recent literature pertaining to the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of glaucoma. Nuances of this latest information will be applied to clinical case examples.

8:00 - 9:00 p.m.:Diagnoses and Management of Herpes Viruses: Zoster vs. Simplex, COPE ID #76477-TD (1 CE Hour)

Course Description: This case-based presentation is designed to highlight the ocular complications of both varicella zoster virus (VZV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV). Acute medical (topical and oral) and surgical (laser, manual debridement) approaches to treatment are discussed along with preventative strategies (long-term oral regimens and vaccination).

Thursday, March 23rd

6:00 – 7:00 p.m.: Arterial Occlusive Disease, COPE ID #74272-SD (1 CE Hour)

Course Description: A presentation of the anatomy and pathophysiology of occlusive arterial, ocular disease. Critical signs and symptoms of common occlusive events will be discussed. Treatment options and outcomes of intervention are reviewed.

7:00 – 9:00 p.m.: Periocular Malignancies, COPE ID #80492-SD (2 CE Hours)

Course Description: This presentation explores the diagnosis, management, and prevention of skin cancer. The importance of gross observation and slit lamp biomicroscopy of the adnexa cannot be undervalued as a means of detecting, diagnosing, and managing malignancies. Treatment modalities including surgical and non-surgical options are discussed.
